In an update rolling out this week, Microsoft is flipping Copilot Vision from opt-in to on-by-default across Windows 11 24H2 and newer. The feature lets users ask Copilot about whatever is currently on screen.
- Runs locally on Copilot+ PCs via the on-device Phi-Silica model
- Falls back to cloud only with explicit user consent
- Banking, password and incognito windows are filtered out at the OS level
It’s a quiet but important shift: Microsoft is betting that AI baked into the operating system, with strong on-device defaults, is the path of least regulatory resistance.
